Before coming, I’ve had a mixed bag of reviews since it opened. I had to try it out for myself at least once to make a judgement call. Essentially, my personal opinion, I probably won’t be back any time soon and I’ll give it a flat 3 / 5 rating.
There were 4 of us and we decided to each have something different dish, so we all get to sample. The Mentaiko pasta was actually not too bad, but could bit a wee less fishy. The standard all day breakfast, was if anything standard, much like the same dish anywhere else, nothing mind blowing. Soggy bacon was a huge minus though. Calamari rings, were too oily, dense and chewy. To benchmark, try the calamari rings at Valentinos.
The buttermilk pancakes however were not too bad, one of the better ones in Singapore, generally fluffy and bits of crisp around the edges. I’ve sadly been pampered by Ciappucinno in Tokyo, which is my gold bar standard for pancakes at the moment. Eggs Benedict, a standard order at most brunches was disappointing, one of the eggs served had a solid yolk.
While the meal was generally quite average with a few small delights and a couple of missteps, the Strawberry Eton Mess actually ended off the meal quite nicely. Its not too complicated a dish, but we really appreciated it not being overly sweet. Now, Ei Liang from Truffs is one of the owners, and he makes the most immaculate Chocolate Truffles (chuck your Godivas) and I’ve heard high praises about his steak sandwiches (which they sadly do not serve). Given the price though and the slightly above average quality of food, I don’t expect to be back on my own volition.
